naco art
Tonantzin de Guadalupe
acrylic
2013

This painting combines duality of Mexico as it combines Pre-Columbian imagery of Aztec Culture and center of worship for Tonantzin and the Catholic faith imposed and merged above it from Spain. The image merges icons of conquest and dominance to bring forward the present day symbol cultural identity for the country. This is also a source of many stereotypes and divisive attitudes to what faith and patriotism is.
